The Tortosa City Council has secured 1.5 million euros from the Department of Culture to convert a building in the former Els Josepets complex into an Artistic Creation Center, with execution scheduled for next year.

The Tortosa council has finalized the executive project for the rehabilitation of this access pavilion to the former school, which includes the renovation of the entrance and the four floors. Plans include creating exhibition halls, multipurpose spaces, and creation workshops.
The upper floors will be connected to the Artists' Residence, a facility included in the Llei de Barris (Neighborhood Law) proposal, along with the recovery of the summer pool and gardens. The work, expected to start next year, will have an execution period of approximately one year.

"The action project will allow us to conserve and extend the useful life of this cultural asset, also providing it with a use compatible with its architecture and value, thereby recovering a historic space converted into a living center."

Mar Lleixà · Deputy Mayor and Culture Councilor of Tortosa
Deputy Mayor Mar Lleixà explained that the subsidy comes from the Office for support to cultural initiative, within the framework of non-competitive grants. The project involves adapting the four floors of the building (ground floor plus three stories), making exterior accesses accessible, and replacing the entire roof with a two-slope structure.

"This 1.5 million euro subsidy will finance the entire operation. Five, six, or seven million more will not be needed, as happened in other projects and with other subsidies. It shows that the municipal government, without photos or egos, achieves resources to carry out real and well-funded projects."
