As the summer season approaches, the Vall-llobrega wastewater treatment plant, located in Baix Empordà, has not been repaired since it sustained significant damage during Storm Harry in January. This situation has led to an oily stain of sewage being visible in the sea, reaching Castell cove in Palamós, causing considerable concern among prospective bathers.

The Palamós City Council is monitoring the quality controls carried out by the ACA and the Consorci d'Aigües de la Costa Brava. Despite the situation, the three fecal contamination analyses conducted since March have indicated that the waters are suitable for bathing.
The storm not only damaged the treatment plant but also flooded its facilities. This infrastructure only separates the solid part of the dirty water, while the liquid part is discharged directly into the sea. The treatment plant serves several towns in the area, including Calonge i Sant Antoni, Palamós, Vall-llobrega, Mont-ras, and Palafrugell, municipalities that experience a significant increase in population during the summer months due to tourism.
