Around 400 personnel from the Generalitat Firefighters and a hundred from the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) are working intensely to extinguish the forest fire in the Gavarres massif, in Baix Empordà, which has been burning uncontrollably since Friday.

The fire, which started on Friday in la Bisbal d'Empordà, has already affected 2,300 hectares of forest mass and has forced the confinement of seven municipalities in the area, affecting approximately 9,700 people. The Military Emergencies Unit (UME) joined the extinction efforts overnight, with a hundred personnel stationed in Corçà.
Around midnight, the left flank of the fire approached Calonge, affecting several houses and gardens in the Cabanyes urbanization. A resident told 3CatInfo that their house was burning and they had to leave without receiving any evacuation alert.
The firefighters' priority overnight was to stabilize the right flank, near Santa Cristina d'Aro, to prevent it from advancing towards urbanized areas and to stop the sea breeze, expected in the afternoon, from intensifying the fire, which has a potential to burn 30,000 hectares.
Efforts were also made to control two-thirds of the left flank, delimited by the triangle connecting la Bisbal d'Empordà, Palafrugell, and Palamós. Wind changes between the tramuntana and the sea breeze complicated the extinction tasks on Friday afternoon.
The confinement of seven municipalities in Baix Empordà, including la Bisbal d'Empordà, Calonge i Sant Antoni, Castell d'Aro, Platja d'Aro i s'Agaró, Cruïlles, Monells i Sant Sadurní de l'Heura, Forallac, Llagostera, and Santa Cristina d'Aro, remains in effect.
