The decision, made unanimously in a general assembly, comes after the union Central Sindical Independent i de Funcionaris reported that the current agreement expired in 2009 and economic conditions have not been updated since, resulting in an accumulated loss of over 400 euros gross per month per worker.
Key demands include equating the destination allowance with that of other municipal civil servants in the same professional group, arguing that the current situation creates salary discrimination.
Worker representatives also point to other labor conflicts related to job descriptions and remuneration supplements that have been unilaterally modified by the council.
This protest coincides with the start of the peak tourist season, which requires an increase in police services for events such as the Cantada d’Havaneres in Calella de Palafrugell and other summer festivals.
The union warns that many of these extraordinary deployments currently fall on temporary staff and that the labor situation has become "unsustainable," calling for effective negotiation.
The Palafrugell City Council has stated that it is in talks with the workers and is confident of reaching an agreement to resolve the conflict.
