The Mayor of Palamós, Maria Puig, highlighted this February the significant obstacles the town faces in mobilizing empty properties, citing excessive market prices and legal complexities.

During a recent interview, Puig explained that identifying vacant flats is difficult as many are used as second homes or are tied up in inheritance disputes. The Palamós Town Council finds that even when they have the right to intervene, costs remain prohibitively high.

"It is very complicated to intervene in empty flats; prices are often absolutely exorbitant."

To address this, the local government is promoting a new Local Housing Plan focused on social rentals and cooperative housing. Meanwhile, urban projects like the Passeig del Mar renovation are progressing, with the central area expected to open before Easter.
The municipal market is also on track to be completed by early summer. Additionally, the council is working to strengthen the Local Police force by accelerating the recruitment process to fill current vacancies.
