Rescue teams are operating under the hypothesis that the 16-year-old boy missing in Roses during a jet ski excursion may have lost his life jacket and sunk at sea. Firefighters are conducting land searches along the coast between L'Escala and L'Estartit, and have deployed drones in the Medes Islands area. Head of operations, Jordi Marquès, explained that sea currents are constantly changing and it's not ruled out that the boy was carried north, unlike the jet ski.
In parallel, the Civil Guard has sealed the jet skis belonging to the company that organized the activity. According to Diari de Girona, this decision was made due to the significant damage found on the young man's jet ski, which was discovered overturned on Pals beach.
The Firefighters' search strategy includes tracing the coastline from Roses to Begur and Palamós to rule out the possibility of the boy being trapped on rocks. Drones are also surveying the Medes Islands, and GRAE divers are conducting dives in areas with "acceptable" visibility.
Jordi Marquès emphasized that the primary hypothesis is the loss of the life jacket, which would explain why the victim might not be in the same location as the jet ski. The jet ski, propelled by the wind, would have stayed on the surface, while the boy, upon sinking, could have been carried by changing sea currents.
The Civil Guard is continuing its investigation and has interviewed the missing boy's companions. The alert was raised when the young man failed to arrive at the meeting point in Santa Margarida. The search involves multiple security and emergency forces, including Salvage at Sea, Mossos d’Esquadra, Local Police, Rural Agents, and the Red Cross.
