This Wednesday, education unions have called for a new day of mobilizations, primarily affecting the regions of Baix Llobregat and Penedès. The protest is part of a series of stoppages that will extend until the end of the academic year, maintaining pressure on the government.
From early morning, a group of teachers and professors blocked the B-23 in both directions at the height of Sant Just Desvern, one of the main access roads to Barcelona. This action has caused significant traffic jams and forced the Mossos d'Esquadra to establish diversions via the A-2. At midday, concentrations are planned in Sant Feliu de Llobregat and Vilafranca del Penedès.
The second day of the strike coincides with the appearance in the Parliament of the Minister of Interior and the Director General of the Police, to provide explanations about the police infiltration in a teachers' assembly. This situation has generated an escalation of tension in the education sector.
“"It is a scandal that violates fundamental rights; the red line has been crossed. Heads must roll."
From the government, respect for the right to strike has been shown, but respect for children's right to education and mobility has also been requested. It is expected that Thursday's negotiation table meeting can unblock the conflict, with the
“"extended hand"
to implement the agreement already signed with some unions. The government spokesperson has emphasized that requests for appearances have always been attended to.
Teacher discontent was evident yesterday with a massive demonstration in Barcelona, where the main demands were for reduced ratios, more resources for inclusive education, and a salary increase. Strike participation figures vary significantly between union sources and the Department of Education.
