The automotive firm Seat has been awarded 15 million euros from the Perte VEC fund as it investigates a potential partnership with Indra to build light military vehicles in Martorell.

Seat S.A. CEO Markus Haupt has held meetings with Indra, Spain's leading defense multinational, to discuss producing electrified platforms for military use. This move follows a European trend where automotive groups like Renault are increasingly collaborating with defense ministries to diversify their industrial output.

"We do not plan any staff reductions to achieve profitability targets."

The project could involve the manufacturing of 50,000 light units intended for logistics and transport rather than direct combat. Meanwhile, the new Perte VEC funding will support the development of the MEB Small platform, which is essential for the upcoming Cupra Raval and Volkswagen ID.Polo electric models at the Martorell plant.
