The closure of the AP-7 southbound traffic has taken effect at 6:00 PM this Wednesday, January 21, 2026, starting from Martorell. The decision was made due to the high risk of collapse of the road section located directly above the area affected by the railway accident in Gelida.
The motorway's structure was compromised when the retaining wall supporting it fell and impacted the train, causing the accident. This situation has forced authorities to prohibit circulation to ensure user safety, and the restriction is expected to last for several days while stabilization and repair work is carried out.
The Bombers (Firefighters) spent the entire morning inspecting the impact zone and the slope to assess the damage. They concluded that the structural risk was too high to keep the road open. For drivers wishing to access the Penedès region from the metropolitan area, alternative routes have been enabled.
The most accessible options for traveling south are the N-340 via Ordal or the C-32, passing through Castelldefels, Sitges, and Vilanova i la Geltrú. As a facilitating measure, the toll at the Garraf tunnels has been lifted, making the section free of charge while the AP-7 remains affected.
