The Mayor of El Vendrell, Kenneth Martínez, inaugurated the political year on Wednesday, January 14, announcing the main projects for 2026, including the construction of a new bridge and the start of the El Vendrell Hospital expansion works.
The most immediate project is the replacement of the current footbridge crossing the Riera de la Bisbal in front of the Nens del Vendrell headquarters. This low-lying footbridge poses a flood risk and will be replaced by a new 30-meter long bridge with an elevated support structure. This action is part of the completion of the first phase of the Riera de la Bisbal renaturalization.
“
"It will be the great victory for the entire region after a long demand for public services dimensioned to our population."
Martínez also highlighted the imminent start of the expansion works for the Hospital del Vendrell, which he described as a “new hospital,” and the laying of the first stone. Furthermore, the main challenge of the year is implementing the new intelligent container waste collection model, starting on February 2 in the Puig/Pèlag and Muntanyeta neighborhoods, aiming to double the selective collection percentage (currently at 30%).
Regarding urban planning, the advancement of the new Municipal Urban Planning Plan (POUM), obsolete since 2000, has been contracted, and social housing will be tendered on five municipal plots. The mayor also emphasized water network works, with an investment of 2 million euros, to reduce losses (currently 30%) and guarantee water self-sufficiency, a key objective for the coming decades.
“
"It will be the year to execute and close the projects of this mandate, the year to collect the work done and fulfill our commitments to urban and green transformation, and to improve public services for an El Vendrell with clean, orderly, and safe streets."
