The town in Baix Penedès becomes the host of this historic competition, closely linked to Catalonia's maritime and sporting heritage, coinciding with its designation as European City of Sport 2026 and the centenary of the sailing dinghy's birth.
Around a hundred sailors from the first and second categories will gather at Sant Salvador beach to compete in the 88th edition of this regatta, organized by the Associació Patí Català Sant Salvador. The competition will take place over the next two weekends, including June 6th and 7th.
The championship's celebration reinforces El Vendrell's projection as a territory committed to sport, the sea, and sustainability. Furthermore, the local council has declared the sailing dinghy a symbol of the municipality's maritime and sporting heritage, being the first city in the province of Tarragona to do so.
The 88th edition will feature prominent names in sailing dinghy racing, such as Jordi Sánchez, number 1 in the ADIPAV 2026 ranking, and Xavi Roca, five-time winner of the International ADIPAV Cup. For the first time, a visually impaired sailor, Dani Anglada Pich, will participate, using a system of vibrating sensors to guide navigation, promoting inclusivity in sport.
The organization, by the Associació Patí Català Sant Salvador, marks their debut in the official annual circuit. The mayor, Kenneth Martínez, has expressed the hope that Sant Salvador beach will become a regular venue for regattas, while the association's president, Edu Sánchez Villavecchia, has conveyed the entity's pride in hosting this event.
