The Socialists' Party of Catalonia (PSC) in Badalona will not participate in the municipal group debate this Friday, December 19, on Televisió de Badalona, protesting the reduction of its frequency and the late broadcast time.
The PSC considers it an “outrage” that the democratic debate space has gone from being held bimonthly to only twice per season, “unjustifiably” reducing political pluralism on the local public television. The debate, moderated by Carles Tornero, is scheduled to air on Televisió de Badalona and Ràdio Ciutat de Badalona at 10:30 PM.
“
"Scheduling a municipal debate at half past ten at night, during the Christmas dinner season, is a conscious decision to reduce the audience and limit citizens' access to political information."
This time slot, combined with the Christmas period, contributes to “invisibilizing” the municipal political debate. The PSC denounces that this situation is a consequence of direct interference by the PP government and the Communication Councillor, Rosa del Amo, in Badalona Comunicació.
“
"This way of acting is a lack of respect towards the PSC, towards the entire opposition, and, above all, towards the residents of Badalona, who deserve a plural, independent municipal television with debates at decent times."
For his part, the director of Badalona Comunicació, Xavier Casanovas, denies any political interference, assuring that Fridays register the same audience as the rest of the weekdays, emphasizing that the program will be available on demand.
Guanyem Badalona has also denounced the “partisan and authoritarian” drift of the entity under the government of Xavier García Albiol, accusing it of using the public medium as a “tool of propaganda and ideological control.” They demand an immediate change of date, time, and format.
