The new police operation against tobacco smuggling occurred when officers were conducting a routine control in the area. They observed a vehicle that stopped abruptly upon seeing the police presence, and immediately, three occupants ran out of the van, abandoning it on the spot.
After searching the abandoned vehicle, the police located the 2,000 boxes of unstamped tobacco. Personal documentation belonging to the three people who had fled was also found, leading to them being investigated for an alleged smuggling offense.
The confiscated merchandise was handed over to the Guardia Civil (Civil Guard), which is the agency responsible for managing irregular tobacco and investigations related to this type of illicit trafficking.
According to police sources, the investigation remains open to locate the suspects and determine if they are part of an organized smuggling network. Tobacco smuggling has recently increased, using key points such as the Estació del Nord and the Barcelona airport as distribution hubs towards Europe.
