Real Betis Balompié and Athletic Club successfully secured their spots in the Copa del Rey MAPFRE Round of 16 on Thursday, while Getafe CF suffered a surprising 3-1 defeat and was eliminated.

The biggest upset was the elimination of Getafe CF, which lost 3-1 to Burgos CF at El Plantío. Despite taking an early lead, the team managed by José Bordalás conceded an equalizer just before halftime from a penalty converted by David González.
The decisive goals for Burgos came in the second half through a brace by Íñigo Córdoba (58' and 73'), capitalizing on defensive errors by Getafe and confirming the exit of another First Division team.

Athletic Club had to resort to extra time to overcome Ourense CF on a rain-affected pitch, demonstrating the difficulty of the cup competition.

Athletic Club struggled significantly at the muddy Estadio de O Couto against Ourense CF. After the match went into extra time, Mikel Jauregizar scored the winning goal in the 106th minute, following a header assist from Aitor Paredes.
Meanwhile, Real Betis Balompié had a more controlled 0-2 victory over Real Murcia at the Estadio Enrique Roca. 'Cucho' Hernández scored the opener from a penalty in the 30th minute, and the final 0-2 was sealed by an own goal from goalkeeper Diego Piñeiro following a shot by Aitor Ruibal.
