The Biennial of Thought 2026 has launched its fifth edition in Barcelona, featuring an inaugural conversation between writer Alessandro Baricco and composer Joan Magrané at Plaça Joan Coromines.

The event, themed Unleashing the present, commenced this afternoon with the talk titled Literature, Music, Mystery, focusing on the human drive in artistic creation. The opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni.
Over six days, from October 13th to 18th, more than a hundred participants, including thinkers, writers, artists, and activists, will share their contemporary reflections through debates, interviews, and readings at various strategic locations across the city. Notable names include Lilian Thuram, Angélica Liddell, Mariana Enríquez, Wendy Brown, Felwine Sarr, Patrick Radden Keefe, José Luis Guerín, Fina Birulés, Jean-Philippe Kindler, Xiaolu Guo, Juan Mayorga, and Maryam Madjidi.
The program includes a meeting between filmmaker José Luis Guerín, Marina Garcés, and Albert Lladó to discuss urban peripheries at the Plaça Major de Nou Barris. The Plaça de les Glòries and the former la Model prison will host discussions on notions of freedom and class struggle, among other topics. The Biennial will also take place at the Hivernacle in Ciutadella Park and the civic centers La Sedeta and Casa Orlandai.
