The Porta Diagonal-Clínic Campus Consortium, composed of eight institutions, has been formed to promote the new hospital and university complex between Barcelona, Esplugues, and L'Hospitalet, with construction expected to begin in 2030.

The constitution of the Porta Diagonal–Clínic Campus Consortium marks the formal start of the health and medical research project promoted by the Hospital Clínic and the University of Barcelona (UB). This consortium, formed by eight key institutions, including the Generalitat de Catalunya and the L'Hospitalet City Council, will manage the complex spanning the Diagonal de Barcelona, Esplugues, and the Can Rigal area in L'Hospitalet-Nord.

"This is a historic day, not only for the UB Clínic campus, but for the city of L'Hospitalet and, obviously, for Barcelona and Esplugues."

David Quirós · Mayor of L'Hospitalet
The new Clínic-UB Health Campus will include a new specialized hospital, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and various research facilities. The Generalitat has already authorized the purchase of land from the UB for 135 million euros, funds earmarked to finance the construction of the new Faculty of Pharmacy. The Urban Planning Master Plan (PDU) plans to act on 70 hectares, with 10 hectares dedicated to the campus by 2035, encompassing 300,000 square meters for healthcare, teaching, and research.
The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, emphasized that this project, together with IDIBELL in Bellvitge, should position Catalonia as an international benchmark in biomedicine. However, Mayor Quirós expressed reservations about the 1,200 homes contemplated in the PDU in the Samontà area, indicating that the City Council's goal will be to reduce this number to prioritize facilities and ensure the sustainability of the space.
The construction projects will be finalized between 2027 and 2028, and the execution of the works is scheduled to begin in 2030, with the inauguration expected in 2035. Regarding mobility, the process to extend Metro line 3 is expected to start in the second half of 2028, including the construction of two new stations in Esplugues: Sant Joan de Déu and Esplugues Centre.
