With the first autumn rains, the 2026 campaign for the Mandó de Collserola tomato is being evaluated, having seen growth in both cultivated area and sales channels. This spring, over 20,000 plants were grown across three commercial farms: Can Domènech (el Papiol), Can Monmany (Sant Cugat del Vallès, managed by the L’Ortiga cooperative), and La Rural (Valldoreix). Additionally, Can Coll (Cerdanyola del Vallès) maintains a plantation for seed selection and production, crucial for the variety's continuous improvement.
The increased production has led to a greater presence of the Mandó de Collserola tomato in Barcelona's municipal markets (Sants, la Llibertat, el Ninot, Sant Antoni, Galvany) and in over 15 restaurants in Sant Cugat del Vallès. This expansion is partly driven by the joint marketing strategy of local producers through DeCollserola.
The revival of this traditional variety began with seeds preserved at the Can Mandó farmhouse in Vallvidrera. Since 2010, the Consorci del Parc Natural de la Serra de Collserola and the Fundació Miquel Agustí have worked on its characterization, improvement, and adaptation for professional cultivation, as part of the Alimentem Collserola program, which also supports local food sales.
Last September 6th, the Tasta Mandó fair at Plaça Barcelona in Sant Cugat del Vallès brought together farmers, organizations, and citizens to celebrate the local tomato. This fifth edition saw over 600 kg of tomatoes sold.
The project continues with trials of the Tíssic de Collserola tomato, which is drought-resistant, and the introduction of the Sant Cugat hen at Can Coll. The next event will be the Festa Pagesa on Saturday, October 3rd, at the fields of La Rural (Valldoreix), organized by the Associació Collserola Pagesa, featuring workshops, farm visits, and performances.
