“"There is another way of doing things, and not serving the speculation of a private business. We want negotiations to be handled differently: by making a planning change without fostering speculation by private initiative, and if that is not possible, that all acquisition avenues be opened. There are alternatives."

Following the opposition's block on the acquisition, the Comuns will present a motion this Friday urging the Jaume Collboni Government to negotiate a new agreement ensuring the cultural use preservation of the Teatre Capitol on La Rambla.
The proposal, led by Janet Sanz, seeks for the emblematic venue to become part of the city's public facilities network with transparent management focused on social return, in line with Barcelona's Cultural Rights Plan.
The initial operation proposed by Mayor Collboni was rejected last week in the Urban Planning commission with votes against from BComú, ERC, and Vox. The disagreement stems from the necessary double urban reclassification, which the Comuns believe does not sufficiently protect public interest and raises risks of real estate speculation.
The Comuns urge the executive to explore all acquisition routes if a planning change that prevents private promotion is not possible, aiming to recover the Teatre Capitol as a strategic municipal cultural facility serving the cultural sector and residents of Ciutat Vella and Barcelona.
