The Penedès Designation of Origin (DO Penedès) celebrated its historic milestone of becoming 100% organic at the Barcelona Wine Week (BWW), drawing significant interest from 26,000 professional visitors at Fira Barcelona last week.

The DO Penedès solidified its position as the first designation of origin in the world to achieve 100% organic certification. This achievement was celebrated with its own stand and various commemorative activities at the BWW, the major professional wine fair, which hosted over 70 exhibiting wineries from the region.

"That a Catalan DO like DO Penedès is the example to follow worldwide demonstrates that viticulture will be organic or it will not be."

During the event, the DO continued its communication campaign, receiving congratulations from prominent restaurateurs and sommeliers. Figures such as Nandu Jubany and Carme Ruscalleda emphasized the importance of “people from all over the world knowing us for things well done”.
Recognized sommeliers like Meritxell Falgueras and Marta Clot highlighted that the DO Penedès' commitment to quality and the environment is directly transmitted to the wine, praising the commitment, respect, and courage of the people of Penedès for making this change.
Within the framework of the BWW, a celebratory tasting was held, led by Xavier Barba, detailing the transition process to 100% organic. Furthermore, sustainability goals were set for 2030, with the ambitious target of achieving 0 emissions.
