Van der Lubbe, who lives in the Catalan capital with his partner Marta and son Sam, chose Barcelona for its international connectivity, crucial for his boutique consulting work, and the family support received in Olesa de Montserrat.
Among the positive aspects, the consultant highlights the culture that “values presence over rushing,” the proximity to the sea, top-tier hospitals, research centers, and excellent design talent.
“"Excellence starts with the basics. If Barcelona can fix bikes and finish public works with the same care, it will naturally attract those who build the future."
Regarding improvements, Van der Lubbe praises the citizen participation platform Decidim but wishes this transparency and responsiveness were applied to daily management, such as repairing Bicing bikes or ensuring transparency in bus feedback.
