The Barcelona City Council and the Consorci d'Educació will keep the playgrounds of 15 public schools open, free of charge, from December 22 to January 7, offering family activities.

The Open School Playgrounds program is a highly valued resource for families seeking entertainment for young children during non-school periods. This Christmas, every district in the Catalan capital will have at least one available playground, as reported by the council in a statement.

The program aims to enhance the educational and social dimension of school playgrounds, offering a safe and local environment for families, children, and teenagers to carry out activities.

Each center will have a monitoring service responsible for opening and closing the facilities, ensuring proper use, and organizing activities. Most of these spaces will be open Monday through Sunday from 11 AM to 2 PM, excluding designated public holidays.
The 15 educational centers participating in the initiative are distributed throughout the city. In Ciutat Vella, these include the Institut Pau Claris and Escola Drassanes; in Eixample, Escola Ramon Llull; and in Sants-Montjuïc, Escola Lluís Vives. In the upper area, the Escola Duran i Bas in Les Corts and the Institut Menéndez-Pelayo in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi will open. In Gràcia, it will be the Escola Rius i Taulet. Finally, in Horta-Guinardó, the Escola de les Aigües and the Institut Escola Coves d'en Cimany will open; in Nou Barris, the Escola Calderón and the Biblioteca Escola Mercè Rodoreda; in Sant Andreu, the Escola Doctor Ferran i Clua; and in Sant Martí, the schools Concepción Arenal, Antoni Brusi, and Eduard Marquina.
