The first virtual rendering of the future Thyssen Museum, set to occupy the former Comèdia Cinema in Barcelona, reveals an expansion featuring a peculiar and modern exterior design.

The architectural proposal, advanced by La Vanguardia and accessed by betevé, reveals the appearance of the building expansion that will rise above the roof of the Comèdia, located at Passeig de Gràcia and Gran Via.
The virtual rendering shows a structure with facades that will reproduce a distinctive geometric pattern. Furthermore, the design anticipates that the roof of the new construction will end in several spikes, giving a unique look to the emblematic location.

"Urban Planning technicians are working to evaluate the architectural project, together with the technical teams of the promoter, now that there is a greater degree of definition of the museum program."

Municipal Sources · Barcelona City Council
Currently, the technical teams from the Urban Planning department of the Barcelona City Council are evaluating the proposal, a process that could last weeks or months. Once this evaluation is complete and the “best possible proposal” is guaranteed, the project will be submitted to the Municipal Plenary for final approval.
The project will not only house the future Thyssen Museum but will also allow up to 25% of the total surface area to be dedicated to restaurant and commercial activities, according to the initial permit granted by the council half a year ago.
