The Government has appointed Òscar Playà, former director of the Barcelona metro network, as CEO of the new mixed company Rodalies de Catalunya SME SA, launched this Monday.

The new mixed company Rodalies de Catalunya SME SA began its activity this Monday, aiming to “pilot” the Catalan train network. The appointment of Playà, who has a twenty-year career at Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), was the main announcement made by the Government of Salvador Illa.

"This appointment reaffirms the Barcelona metro as a successful model, an example of reliability and public service that citizens rate highly."

Laia Bonet · TMB President and First Deputy Mayor of Barcelona
Laia Bonet, President of TMB and first deputy mayor of the Barcelona City Council, defended the decision, emphasizing that Playà's experience leading the metro network since 2001 confirms the success of the city's underground public transport, a key reason for his selection.
Playà, who holds a degree in telecommunications engineering from Universitat Ramon Llull, has held several key positions at TMB. Between 2017 and 2020, he served as director of the T-Mobilitat project and was responsible for the Metro Control Center, bringing extensive experience in team and railway network management to the new Rodalies leadership.
