The care pressure on hospital emergency services is very high, concentrated mainly in the city of Barcelona and the metropolitan regions North (which includes Terrassa) and South. Last week, more than 80,000 hospital emergencies were recorded across Catalonia, representing a 2.6% increase compared to the previous week.
This increase in activity has been particularly noticeable in the pediatric field. Given the expected rise in mobility and social interaction during the Christmas holidays, the Health Department urges maximum caution and advises against exposing the most vulnerable groups.
The Department of Health has prioritized investment in the northern metropolitan region, with nearly 11 million euros, to guarantee staffing levels and the monitoring of epidemiological indicators.
The total 36.8 million euros will be allocated to reinforce primary, hospital, and intermediate care. The main objective is to strengthen the professional workforce to cope with the foreseeable increase in activity and maintain close surveillance.
Furthermore, citizens are reminded of the importance of vaccination against the flu and Covid-19 as an essential preventive measure to reduce the severity of cases and the pressure on the healthcare system.
