Starting this Friday, Netflix subscribers can enjoy the premiere of Gente que conocemos en vacaciones, the film adaptation of the romantic literature bestseller written by Emily Henry and published in 2023.
The film was directed by the American Brett Haley, known for works such as The Hero and Hearts Beat Loud, and stars Tom Blyth and Emily Bader. The plot follows Poppy, a travel journalist, and Alex, lifelong friends who spend their vacations together.
Poppy is a free spirit and Alex likes to plan everything. After many vacations together, these very different friends wonder if they will be the perfect couple.
Unlike the novel, which set the action in Springs (California), the film adaptation moves the characters to Barcelona. Filming took place in the Catalan capital and also in Costa Brava enclaves such as Cala Boadella and the Jardins de Santa Clotilde.
This change of location led to modifications in the original script. This is the first adaptation of an Emily Henry novel, but four more books (Beach Read, Book Lovers, Happy Place, and Funny Story) are already in the process of being adapted for the screen.
