Preventive Warning Activated for High PM10 Particle Pollution in Barcelona Conurbation

The measure affects the Special Protection Zone (ZPE) after the 50 μg/m³ threshold was exceeded at five measuring stations.

The Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition has activated a preventive warning for atmospheric pollution in the Special Protection Zone of the Barcelona conurbation due to elevated levels of PM10 particles.

Levels of particles with a diameter smaller than 10 microns (PM10) exceeded the daily average value of 50 μg/m³ during Tuesday at five measuring stations located within the Special Protection Zone (ZPE).
The affected stations are located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Torrent Gornal Avenue), Terrassa (Pare Alegre), and three sites in the city of Barcelona: the Fabra Observatory, the Vall d’Hebron Park, and the Eixample district.
The 24-hour forecast, including Wednesday, suggests that atmospheric dispersion conditions will not improve significantly. Although some rain has occurred, it is insufficient to clear the atmosphere, meaning high levels are expected to persist.
The preventive warning is the phase preceding a potential environmental episode. It is activated to reduce pollutant emissions caused by human activities, which are currently compounded by a natural intrusion of African dust, keeping the atmosphere heavily loaded.
