Residents of the Santa Eulàlia neighborhood and the Comuns de L’Hospitalet have resumed protests in Barcelona and L'Hospitalet against the Illa Citroen project, which plans less green space than originally promised.

The Illa Citroen project involves the construction of a 21,000 square meter green area and a development of 200 homes, located between Riera Blanca and Rambla de Badal, an area bordering L'Hospitalet and Barcelona.
Opponents strongly criticize the Barcelona City Council for modifying the Metropolitan General Plan (PGM) to prevent this area from becoming a 100% green zone. This modification has resulted in a 25% reduction of the green space previously planned, allowing the construction of two hundred apartments, the vast majority oriented towards L’Hospitalet.

"the Illa Citroen project will have a negative impact on the neighborhood because it will multiply the density, when what we need are more green and community spaces."

Santa Eulàlia residents denounce that this urban action will further increase the already high population density of the area, criticizing that administrations talk about green policies while continuing to prioritize concrete.
In this vein, Manuel Domínguez, coordinator of the Comuns de L’Hospitalet, criticized the Barcelona City Council for allowing most of the buildings to face Riera Blanca, noting that it makes no sense to increase construction in the urban continuum stretching from La Florida to Sants, one of the most densely populated areas in Europe.
As part of the mobilization efforts, residents of Santa Eulàlia and La Bordeta have called a demonstration for Saturday, January 17, to protest the project and present the collected signatures.
