The lifeless body of Eusebio, 57, was found by the Mossos d'Esquadra around eleven o'clock on Tuesday night in the Barceloneta neighborhood (Ciutat Vella district). Authorities ruled out signs of criminality. The Arrels Foundation, which regularly visited him, confirmed his identity.
This loss occurs amidst an intense cold wave and follows the death of another homeless man found dead the same Tuesday in a parking lot in Badalona. According to the organization, five people living on the streets in Barcelona have now died in the last five weeks.
“"It cannot be that metropolitan councils do not open their own resources and that Barcelona only expands 100 places when 2,000 people live on the street."
The organization has made an urgent appeal to Catalan municipalities to enable additional resources allowing people living on the streets to take shelter from the low temperatures, especially given the lack of response from some local councils.
