The suspension of the oral hearing, initially scheduled for this morning, was caused by an emergency surgical operation of the defense lawyer. This forced the Sixth Section of the Barcelona Court (Audiència de Barcelona) to postpone the proceedings until at least October 19, hoping that none of the parties have a preferential trial scheduled for the same date.
The case, known in the media as the “love that arrived with a Lamborghini,” focuses on an Italian man with a French passport, accused of defrauding a widow he met through the sale of a luxury vehicle, a Lamborghini Aventador, and continued with alleged high-end watch transactions.
The fraud amounted to 1,290,000 euros, a perfectly planned scheme for illicit enrichment.
The victim had received a substantial inheritance from her late husband, including money and several high-end cars. Contact with the accused began in April 2021, when she listed the Lamborghini Aventador for sale on the Autoscout24 website. The accused arranged a meeting two days later and initiated a strategy for illicit enrichment, allegedly aided by two other unidentified individuals.
The Prosecution is seeking an eight-year prison sentence and a fine of 17,280 euros for the accused, who has already spent three months in provisional detention, in addition to 1,290,000 euros in compensation for the victim.
