This figure represents an increase of 668 unemployed individuals compared to December, translating to a 1.04% rise. When compared to the same period last year, February 2025, there were 64,067 people without work, which is 448 fewer than currently, marking a 0.69% increase over the year.
The evolution of unemployment in the Catalan capital mirrors patterns observed during major economic crises. Following the 2008 crisis, unemployment surged until April 2013, when it began a period of decline. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a sudden increase in 2020, particularly during lockdown, stabilizing by early 2022 after a recovery that started in March 2021.
At the Catalonia level, unemployment also decreased during March, following three consecutive months of increases. Current records are the lowest for a March since 2008, with a total of 323,476 people without work across the Catalan territory.
