Vueling's strategic plan, Rumbo 2035, aims to increase its annual passenger volume from 40 million to 60 million. This ambitious expansion is supported by the IAG group's confirmed order of 50 new Boeing aircraft, representing a total investment of 5 billion euros until 2030.
“"From a directional point of view, so that it is understood, more than half of the investment will go to Barcelona. We have a vision of 60 aircraft based in Barcelona this year, and we believe this will make it grow significantly."
Pla emphasized that Barcelona, where the company originated and maintains its largest operation, is the priority destination for the investment. The growth strategy includes utilizing off-peak hours at El Prat Airport and incorporating higher-capacity aircraft, such as the 737 (197 seats) and potentially the Max-10 (up to 224 seats).
The executive also confirmed Vueling's support for the expansion of Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, provided that efficiency and economic sustainability conditions are met. Furthermore, the plan seeks to consolidate the airline's leadership in the Spanish domestic market, which is the largest in Europe, adding 500,000 extra seats for the 2026 summer season.
