After more than a hundred inspections across the network, the railway infrastructure administrator confirmed the need for urgent interventions, mainly to protect slopes and trenches. These 23 points are distributed across seven lines, with the majority concentrated in the Tarragona demarcation (9), followed by Barcelona (5), Girona (5), and Lleida (4).
The total suspension of the Rodalies and regional service was decreed on Saturday evening, following a chaotic week of constant incidents. Inspections have focused on key sections such as Barcelona-Vilanova-Sant Vicenç de Calders, Barcelona-Mataró-Maçanet, and the coastal line towards Girona and Figueres.
“"The urgent actions required are not only a consequence of the recent storm, but also years of disinvestment in infrastructure."
Adif has reported that it is currently “defining and prioritizing” the execution of emergency works, without offering a specific timeline for the restoration of the service. The goal is to resume circulation with “absolute guarantees” and the highest standards of reliability, minimizing the risk of new incidents.
Meanwhile, user platforms have denounced that the neglected critical points exceed one hundred and that the network is “aging and not adapted to 2026”. The president of the Associació per a la Promoció del Transport Públic, Adrià Ramírez, asserted that the solution cannot be solely speed limitation on these sections.
