The reconstruction works on the Pont del Petroli in Badalona are progressing according to the established timeline. Provided weather conditions permit, the completion of the works will allow the reopening of the iconic pier before the year concludes. Mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol, accompanied by the second deputy mayor, Daniel Gracia, visited the site to oversee the progress.
Currently, the final stages of dismantling the old sections of the walkway are underway to replace them with new structures. This task is expected to be completed this week. In parallel, the new final platform for the bridge is being constructed at the port of Badalona. This new structure features a design that is more resistant to storms, with inclined and hydrodynamic surfaces to improve its stability against wave impacts.
The construction of the new platform is well advanced, with only the assembly of the metal pieces remaining. These are expected to be welded in the coming weeks. Once completed, the platform will be transported from the port and installed onto the Pont del Petroli from the sea. This operation will mark the end of the most complex phase, as workers will have a fixed platform to operate from, reducing their dependence on sea conditions.
The final phase of the project will involve a surface protection process for the entire structure to extend its lifespan and provide a uniform finish through painting. Subsequently, the current wooden decking, railing, and lighting will be renewed.
Mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol highlighted the importance of the works progressing as planned, despite the challenges posed by maritime conditions. He emphasized the goal of reopening the iconic pier with maximum safety and durability. Albiol also noted that the absolute majority obtained from residents has enabled the repair to move forward, avoiding political obstacles that could have delayed this symbolic project for the city.
