This initiative focuses on maintaining fire prevention strips within the municipal area, covering a total of 346 hectares. The actions will be carried out in areas of the Gràcia, Horta-Guinardó, Les Corts, Nou Barris, and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi districts, aiming to facilitate surveillance and extinction tasks in case of fire.
The works, tendered by Parks and Gardens, include clearing herbaceous and shrub layers, cleaning the tree layer, and pruning low branches. Priority will be given to removing dry and dead vegetation, and the plant remains will be shredded or chopped on-site, depending on terrain conditions.
According to municipal sources, these actions will reduce the vertical and horizontal continuity of vegetation, leaving the forest mass with optimal density to minimize fire spread during high-risk periods. Additionally, vulnerable areas such as urbanizations and neighborhoods adjacent to forest mass will be protected, and key firefighting infrastructures will be maintained.
Currently, three teams are working simultaneously on the southern and southeastern slopes of the city, with an estimated coverage of about 66 hectares per month in this first phase, which will conclude by mid or late June. Tasks will resume in September in the northern area of the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district, with the goal of completing the perimeter before the end of the year.
Despite the presence of African swine fever (ASF) in Collserola, fire prevention actions are expressly authorized as they are considered essential for safety. All tasks will be carried out with the disinfection measures required by this situation.
