The Barcelona City Council is opening the application period this Friday, February 20, for a new rental subsidy of up to 400 euros per month for vulnerable residents.

This measure, announced by Mayor Jaume Collboni, is part of the city's 'social shield' and has a total budget of six million euros. The program specifically targets single-parent families with children and individuals aged 55 or older living alone.
Applicants must be registered residents in Barcelona, prove five years of legal residence in Catalonia, and spend at least 30% of their income on rent. The monthly rent cannot exceed 1,100 euros.

"The initiative seeks to protect both people at risk of losing their homes and those who are finding serious difficulties in staying in a rented apartment."

The subsidy will cover the amount exceeding the 30% income threshold, with a maximum of 400 euros per month. The aid is granted for the year 2026 and requires monthly proof of payment via bank transfer.
