The Institut Municipal d'Educació de Barcelona will host the tie-breaking draw for municipal nurseries on June 5 at 11:30 AM. This event is essential for families, as the resulting number will establish the order of applications that have received the same score during the pre-registration process.
The primary function of this draw is to resolve ties in application scores. Given that the demand for nursery places often exceeds the available supply, the draw ensures an equitable mechanism for assignment. Once the list of applications with identical scores is compiled, places are assigned following the order established by the number drawn.
During the last academic year, the municipal nursery network covered 66% of applications. The Barcelona City Council anticipates that with the incorporation of two new centers, the EBM Tramuntana in Sant Andreu and the EBM la Mar in Ciutat Vella, coverage will increase to 71% of demand for the upcoming academic year.
Interested families can attend the public draw event, which will be held in the assembly hall of the Institut Municipal d'Educació de Barcelona, located at Plaça d'Espanya, 5. For those unable to attend, the tie-breaking number will be made public once the event concludes.
Other key dates in the pre-registration process include the publication of available places on May 1, the online and in-person pre-registration period from May 4 to May 15, the publication of the provisional list of applications on May 21, and the claims period from May 22 to May 29. The definitive list of scores will be published on June 1, and enrollment will take place from June 11 to June 25.
