The Barcelona City Council is set to approve the new Carmen Thyssen Museum on May 27, after the main opposition party, Junts, reached a decisive agreement with Mayor Jaume Collboni's government.

The project will involve the complete renovation of the Palau Marcet, the historic building that previously housed the Comèdia cinema. The deal includes strict conditions to preserve the heritage facade and limits the commercial area of the museum to 16% of the total surface, preventing direct street access for the planned restaurant.
Jordi Martí Galbis, leader of Junts in the city, celebrated the technical improvements achieved during negotiations. The museum aims to become a major international cultural landmark, featuring iconic works such as Gauguin's Mata Mua.

"In three decisive areas we have introduced improvements that have led us to say yes."

Baroness Carmen Thyssen has expressed her openness to adjusting the project to fit the city's needs and hopes to appoint a local director. While the project now has a guaranteed majority, the Barcelona en Comú party remains opposed, citing concerns over tourism saturation in the city center.
