The infrastructure manager Adif maintains 155 sections of the Rodalies and Regional network in Catalonia with limited speed for safety reasons, according to an internal document published in January 2026.

These 155 points, totaling 110 kilometers, are found on all Rodalies and Regional lines except the RL3 in Lleida. The information comes from an internal Adif document accessed by the Agència Catalana de Notícies (ACN), which is updated weekly with disruptions across the state network.
The line with the most temporary limitations is the R15 (connecting Barcelona Estació de França with Riba-roja d'Ebre via Reus), with 39 points. Of these, 16 are concentrated in the currently closed section between Riba-roja d'Ebre and Reus. The other heavily affected line is the R4 (Sant Vicenç de Calders - Manresa), with 28 limitations, followed by the R11 (Barcelona - Portbou), with 19 points.

Some sections with speed limitations have been on the list for up to 10 years because the necessary repairs have not been carried out.

The reasons for these restrictions are varied. In one out of four cases (25.2%), the justification is the state of the track. The second most frequent factor (14%) is the poor condition of the switch mechanism or points. Other causes include the state of the “trinxeres” (cuttings excavated to smooth the gradient) and the poor condition of a tunnel.
Sources consulted by the ACN indicate that some of these sections have been on the list for up to 10 years without the necessary repairs being carried out. Furthermore, the managing body, Adif, has refused to comment on the document's content, claiming it is for internal company use.
