Hotels in Catalonia reached a new historic record in July, exceeding 2.69 million travelers, a 3.1% increase from the previous year, with a strong rise in foreign tourism.

Catalonia recorded a total of 2,697,163 travelers in its hotels during July, marking a new record for this month in the historical series. This 3.1% year-on-year increase is mainly due to the arrival of foreign tourists, who grew by 4%, totaling 1,801,227 visitors. Domestic travelers increased by 1.3%, reaching 895,936.
This statistic surpasses previous records for a second consecutive year, exceeding the 2,615,520 travelers from July 2025. The provinces of Barcelona and Girona experienced increases of 5.1% and 3.8% respectively, while Lleida saw a 8.9% drop and Tarragona a 1% decrease.
In the January-July cumulative period, Catalan hotels also broke a record, surpassing 13 million travelers for the first time (13,510,129), a 4.3% increase from the previous year. Foreign travelers represent two-thirds of the total, with approximately 8.6 million, and residents from the rest of Spain number nearly 4.9 million.
Despite the increase in visitors, the total number of overnight stays in July slightly decreased by 0.8%, amounting to 8,154,662. This indicates a reduction in the average length of stay, which dropped from 3.14 to 3.02 nights per traveler. The province of Tarragona recorded the longest stays (3.82 nights).
Catalonia remains the second most preferred destination for Spanish travelers (14.2% share), surpassed only by Andalusia. In the foreign tourism segment, Catalonia is also the second community with the most accommodations (20.2%), behind the Balearic Islands. Barcelona was the local destination with the highest number of overnight stays.
