The demolition work for these two properties, known as Casa Sebastián Bosch Elías and Casa Frederic Sanés, will continue until mid-July. The lack of heritage protection for these buildings, each with five floors and featuring modernist details on their balconies and upper sections, has permitted their demolition.
The Clot-Camp de l'Arpa Residents' Association has been informed by the City Council that the demolition will commence in the coming days. These buildings, with boarded-up ground floors and open balconies, are subject to signage prohibiting parking in front of them until July 17th.
“"Cordon off the demolition and prepare a technical and heritage report on their architectural, historical, and cultural values."
In early March, the demolition of these twin buildings had already been flagged. A last-minute attempt to save them was made by a spokesperson for the municipal group, who requested a precautionary suspension of the demolition and the study of urban planning alternatives to preserve them while expanding the park. Republican sources have confirmed that the municipal government did not respond to this request, and now, with the works underway, the demolition is unavoidable.
From the Residents' Association, it was noted that the preservation of the buildings was considered when developing the heritage plan, but the completion of Glòries Park up to Consell de Cent was prioritized, deeming their subsequent integration difficult and potentially delaying the area's transformation.
Casa Frederic Sanés (Consell de Cent, 600), attributed to Josep Graner i Prat, is notable for its ornamental reliefs, female busts, and a ceramic-decorated hall. Casa Sebastián Bosch Elías (Consell de Cent, 602), designed by architect Ramon Freixé i Mallofré and completed in 1916, features glazed floral ceramic wainscoting and wall sgraffito.
The expansion of the northern facade of Glòries Park will affect approximately eighty properties, adding 26,400 square meters of green space. Four buildings will be preserved entirely, and two partially, while about fifty families have been rehoused or compensated. This demolition is part of the Glòries transformation project, which will also improve connectivity between the adjacent neighborhoods.
