The formation of a large hole next to the train tracks forced an immediate cut and diversion of the watercourse to prevent leaks. This emergency measure left several sections of the canal without water, causing the death of numerous fish living there.
Over the weekend, technicians from the Agència Catalana de l'Aigua, the Consorci del Besòs, and the railway administrator worked on restoring the area. Efforts included removing dead animals and relocating survivors to areas with water, as well as stabilizing the ground with concrete and mortar.
The Barcelona City Council has demanded accountability for the environmental impact, although the environmental unit of the Mossos d'Esquadra ruled out an environmental crime following on-site inspections.
