The artwork, presented to families yesterday afternoon, is inspired by the symbolism of the kufiya, the Palestinian scarf. Students replaced traditional elements with symbols specific to the educational center. Books represent the education received, puzzle pieces symbolize the bonds formed with peers and teachers, and a network of people replaces the original fishing net to represent the educational community.
This marks the first participation of the Jaume Botey Institute in the 'En Residència' program, an initiative that links artistic creation and education, promoted by entities such as the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB), the Consorci d’Educació de Barcelona, Fàbriques de Creació, and the association A Bao A Qu, with the collaboration of MACBA.
“"It is a long project, and therefore, it goes through various phases. It certainly opens the mind and, at the same time, generates uncertainties, but the moment of executing the final piece is one of great joy, of discovering that we can create art and, consequently, it empowers."
The students have expressed their satisfaction with the program, highlighting the opportunity to work with a professional artist and the discovery of new personal facets. "I had never done this before, and it has allowed me to find myself, because I really like it," assures one of the participating students.
During the presentation, families were able to learn firsthand about the project's development and thanked the artist Milena Rossignoli and the teaching staff for their efforts in bringing this creative initiative to fruition.
