The broadcast of the Football World Cup matches is generating very high viewership figures for TVE, positioning it as the most-watched channel day after day. In Catalonia, this situation has relegated TV3 to a secondary position, one it is not accustomed to.
On Wednesday, the only day without a World Cup match, TV3 took the opportunity to air the film El Favor, directed by Juana Macías. The film, starring Inma Cuesta and Sara Sálamo, achieved a 13.6% share, becoming the most-watched option of the night. The plot, centered on a well-off family returning to their village to bid farewell to Amparito, captivated an average of 170,000 viewers.
This figure surpassed programs such as the special episode of First Dates on Telecinco (7.2%), La Revuelta on Antena 3 (9.7%), and La Revuelta (7.8%). It is noteworthy that La Revuelta featured the singer Shakira via a video conference, although her presence was not enough to lead the night.
The broadcast of this Spanish comedy has been a successful choice in a month that presents challenges for television audiences. The Football World Cup, held every four years, captures the attention of thousands of fans. TVE is pleased with the results and anticipates that upcoming matches, particularly the quarter-finals, will maintain this interest.
Not even the season finale of the program Polònia, which included a special segment on the death of Toni Soler, managed to shield TV3 from the impact of the World Cup. The film broadcast the previous week had already demonstrated that fiction can be a valuable resource for the channel during periods of low viewership.
