The Generalitat de Catalunya will give absolute priority to the new Clínic Health Campus – University of Barcelona, declaring the project of public interest to expedite procedures.

The Executive Council of the Generalitat will soon approve the declaration of public interest for the new Clínic Health Campus – University of Barcelona, a decisive step for its future development on Diagonal Avenue. This declaration signifies an "absolute political and institutional priority" for the Catalan government, as stated by the Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau, who assured that "everything possible will be done so that it does not have to overcome so many bureaucratic obstacles".
The measure will allow for "accelerating urban planning and the development" of the campus. In the energy sector, "priority processing for connection permits and capacity to the electrical grid" will be guaranteed, essential for a healthcare facility of this magnitude. Furthermore, the land on Diagonal Avenue, currently designated for sports facilities, will be allocated to the new campus, and the disaffection of the UB's land will be ratified for its future acquisition by the Generalitat.
In parallel, the international project competition to define the campus's design is advancing. Following the publication of the prior notice, the call for submissions is scheduled for September. The process aims to attract "the best proposals and ideas" from global architects and engineers. The first phase of technical accreditation will take place between September and November, followed by two elimination stages. The five finalist teams are expected to submit detailed proposals by December 2027, with the winner to be decided in the first quarter of 2028.
