Councilor Elisenda Alamany was officially named ERC candidate for Mayor of Barcelona on February 28, securing a majority of votes from the party membership.

The leader of the ERC municipal group won 72% of the votes in the regional congress. Although she was the sole candidate, 27% of members cast blank ballots following calls from internal critical sectors. Elisenda Alamany joins Gerardo Pisarello of BComú as the first confirmed candidates for the upcoming elections.

"The balance has been lost because for eight years Comuns and PSC have not lived up to what an ambitious and proud Barcelona is."

During her speech, Elisenda Alamany criticized the current PSC administration for its focus on large events and competition with Madrid. She proposed a total ban on new licenses for tourist-oriented businesses, such as souvenir shops and 24-hour supermarkets, to protect local neighborhood commerce.
