The incident took place near Rogent 53, close to Provença Street, while the wife of the owner, José Contreras, was walking the dog. According to the owner, a car with an Andorran license plate overtook them and struck the animal.
Despite rushing the dog to the veterinarian, nothing could be done to save its life. José's wife confronted the driver, who allegedly responded that she should not worry, as he would buy her another one.
The regulation is very clear: Rogent Street is not a through street at any time of the day, but an absolute priority axis for pedestrians.
The event underscores the issue of unauthorized vehicle circulation on Rogent Street, which the Barcelona City Council designates as an "absolute priority axis" for pedestrians. General circulation is prohibited, with exceptions only for residents and loading/unloading during specific hours (Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00 h).
Although the Guàrdia Urbana (local police) did not receive any calls at the time of the accident, José Contreras later filed a complaint with the Mossos d’Esquadra. Judicial authorities will now be responsible for determining the liabilities related to the incident.
