The incident occurred yesterday afternoon when a train detected the fire and stopped in the tunnel. Passengers were evacuated on foot with the help of emergency teams, who subsequently extinguished the flames. As a result, Glòries station had to be closed and service at Clot was suspended, also affecting the frequency of the L2 line.
The Servei d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) confirmed that 137 people received assistance, mostly for smoke inhalation. Despite the number of affected individuals, none showed signs of serious injury. Patients were taken to various hospitals and urgent care centers in the city, such as Hospital de Sant Pau, Hospital Sagrat Cor, and Hospital del Mar.
To manage the emergency, the Ferrocat civil protection plan was activated, and 22 units from the Barcelona Fire Department and 24 ambulances were mobilized. The service disruption forced the suspension of the L1 line between Universitat and La Sagrera stations, with an alternative road service established to cover the affected section.
