The 50th edition of the Grec Festival has exceeded expectations in Montjuïc, recording a 96% occupancy rate and drawing 144,714 spectators, an increase of 16,000 people compared to the previous year. In contrast, performances held elsewhere in the city had a 61% occupancy. The overall average for the festival stands at 71%.
The festival's half-century celebration commenced with L’òpera dels tres rals, directed by Marta Pazos. The edition featured notable concerts such as Arrels de Llum at the Sagrada Família, with Maria Arnal, Lídia Pujol, and the Cor Cererols, and Les flors prohibides, with artists like Clara Peya and Ferran Palau. The latter two were broadcast live by betevé.
In commemoration, Cançons del Grec reviewed the festival's history with artists including Maria del Mar Bonet and Estrella Morente. A total of 96 events spanning theatre, music, dance, circus, cinema, and installations were programmed, with over 197,000 tickets available. Figures such as Angélica Liddell, Calixto Bieito, Romeo Castellucci, La Conquesta del Pol Sud, Núria Guiu, as well as Maria Aurèlia Capmany and Montserrat Roig, were among the edition's protagonists.
Grec 2026 concludes with the Spanish premiere of choreographies 16 and 17 by TAO Dance Theater at the Teatre Grec on July 30th and 31st. These pieces explore circular movement without narrative. Concurrently, at the Teatre Lliure de Montjuïc, Um julgamento by Christiane Jatahy premieres, a reflection on post-truth inspired by Ibsen, where the audience acts as the jury. Both productions have sold out.
