The Hospital del Mar in Barcelona inaugurated its second expansion phase this Monday, adding 31,000 square meters featuring robotic operating rooms, a helipad, and a world-first automated pharmacy logistics system.

The new facilities include four advanced operating rooms, two of which are hybrid suites integrating high-tech angiography and MRI equipment for complex robotic surgeries. The Pain Unit and Endoscopy department have also significantly increased their clinical space and technological capabilities.
A standout feature is the 3,000-square-meter pharmacy service. It is the first hospital globally to implement a high-density robotic cube storage system, which optimizes space by 80% and automates the entire medication dispensing process from reception to delivery.
The expansion also focuses on humanizing healthcare with a 2,700-square-meter therapeutic garden and patient rooms featuring artwork by Perico Pastor. Catalan President Salvador Illa and Mayor Jaume Collboni attended the opening, noting that the final phase of the hospital's transformation is expected by 2031.
