Transport Metropolità de Barcelona (TMB) has confirmed that the comprehensive track renovation works on this segment, connecting Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, are nearing completion, adhering to the planned schedule.
The work focused on renewing several track sections, points, drainage systems, and signaling. According to TMB, these improvements will reduce incidents, enhance service reliability, and increase passenger comfort by minimizing vibrations.
The president of TMB and deputy mayor of the City Council of Barcelona, Laia Bonet, described the works as "essential" and thanked the public for their understanding. Meanwhile, the first deputy mayor of L'Hospitalet, Jesús Husillos, apologized for the daily mobility issues caused by the intervention.
In parallel, an outdoor expansion joint between Mercat Nou and Santa Eulàlia has been renewed, and the facilities at the Santa Eulàlia workshop have been modernized, including tracks, access points, and the replacement of conventional catenary with rigid catenary. Metro director David Prat highlighted that the new workshop accesses are faster and easier to maintain.
The works, with a budget of 11.5 million euros, involved renewing approximately 2.1 kilometers of track (510 meters in the workshop area and 1,580 meters of main track) and have employed 170 people working 24 hours a day since the project began on July 17.
Regarding air conditioning, TMB CEO Xavier Flores noted that while efforts have been made to air-condition vehicles, improving platforms, being larger and open spaces, is more complex, although future possibilities are being studied.
